The Story of Nabta
Nabta began with a simple observation: growth often starts when we learn to see ourselves differently.
For years, my own journey has moved between different worlds of learning — Qur’an recitation, Tajweed, Arabic nasheed and maqamat, alongside a deep love for handmade and traditional arts.
At first, these interests seemed separate. But over time, I began to notice the same pattern running through all of them: repetition, rhythm, patience, focus and gradual growth.
We find these patterns in Qur’an recitation and the training of the voice. We find them in rhythm and maqam. We see them again in geometry, traditional crafts, repeated motifs and the patterns that surround us in nature.
There is something deeply grounding about learning with our hands, voices and minds. Focusing on a pattern, repeating a movement, developing a new skill or creating something beautiful can give the mind space to slow down, reconnect and find a sense of order again.
And this became especially meaningful to me when thinking about the difficult seasons we all experience in life.
Learning cannot erase what we have been through. But it can create a new space within our lives — a place for curiosity, creativity, confidence and possibility. Through discovering abilities we did not know we had, we can begin to see ourselves beyond our difficult experiences and imagine new ways forward.
This is where the idea of Nabta was born.
Like a seed, a skill can begin very small. With attention, practice and the right environment, it grows. And sometimes, as we nurture that new skill, something within us begins to grow with it.
Nabta is therefore more than a place to take a course. It is a community where women can learn, create, connect and discover new possibilities within themselves — finding moments of calm, purpose and renewed confidence through meaningful learning.
Healing through learning.
Create & Collaborate with Nabta
Nabta grows through shared knowledge, creativity and collaboration.
We welcome artists, makers, tutors and creative practitioners whose work connects with the values at the heart of Nabta — meaningful learning, traditional and creative arts, wellbeing, craftsmanship and the joy of discovering new skills.
We are open to collaborating with guest tutors to create online courses, in-person workshops, live learning experiences and special community events.
Whether your practice is rooted in traditional arts, craft, pattern, design, heritage or another creative discipline that encourages focus, curiosity and personal growth, we would love to discover what we might create together.
